We can change anything we want, and we did! We looked a lot at other JRPG games we love, like ‘Golden Sun’ and ‘Chrono Trigger,’ to tell a totally different kind of story.” "What ‘Pokemon’ does is they stay a lot in the same lane, they don’t change things much," he said. It was a great fit for desktop as well, and that’s why the feedback is pretty similar at this point.”ĭEVELOPMENT CHALLENGES: When asked what the biggest challenge has been in making "Coromon" stand out not just from other "Pokemon"-inspired titles, but from the "Pokemon" games themselves, Pouwels said it's the "unique mix" of Japanese role-playing elements with the monster-taming formula. Most mobile games go more into the casual route, and we wanted to disturb that market by offering a very big JRPG. The best thing for us was that we wanted to disturb the mobile market with a desktop-like game. But after hearing some feedback on the PC version, we solved those issues, and now we don’t really get different feedback anymore. So ‘Coromon’ is a mobile-first game, and we had to make some adjustments for the Steam version. "We created the mobile version first and added desktop support later on. “I think in the early days we saw a difference," he noted. When asked if the feedback has been different for the PC and mobile versions of the game, Pouwels said that there was a difference in comments early on, but after a number of patches most feedback at this point is similar across both versions. We’ve had the out for over a year already, and because of our feedback, the game is getting even better.” "We have a Discord server where everyone can provide feedback, and we try to listen a lot, because they come with great ideas, which we actually implement into the game as well. “It’s amazing how the fans have reacted to it," he added. At the moment, we are near 1.5M players total.” "In the first two months we had 2,000-3,000 downloads, but it spiked after was being played by content creators, and that really spiked interest in our game. Starting out, it didn’t reach that many people, but it had kind of a snowball effect," Pouwels said. That’s all I can say.”įEEDBACK: A demo version of "Coromon" is currently available on Steam, Google Play (GOOGL), and Apple's (AAPL) App Store, and the TRAGSoft co-CEO said that feedback from users so far has been "overwhelmingly good." "We started out with the demo reaching a small audience. "We are looking at early Q1 or the end of Q1, not in the middle of Q1. "The publishers and dev team are looking at the best dates possible at the moment, but we haven’t settled on a specific ," he told The Fly. Pouwels said that while the studio stands by its Q1 release window, a more concrete launch date has not yet been reached. RELEASE DATE: "Coromon," a monster-catching role-playing game, is set for release in 1Q22 on mobile, PC through Steam, and Nintendo Switch (NTDOY).
